KUVIC is a stock investment club within the Business School, founded with the goal of engaging in value investing. Over its 20-year history, KUVIC has produced over 400 alumni, and its members hold investment-related sessions every Tuesday and Friday evening, as well as compiling reports once a month. The club's analyses are highly regarded for their reliability, with even general stock investors consulting the reports available on KUVIC’s official website.
Why do you put so much effort into studying investments this early on in your development?
Tae-min I think there are three ways to achieve financial freedom: investing, starting a business, or becoming a celebrity or influencer. For me, stock investing aligns best with my aptitude, so I’m working hard on it.
Yeong-su Above all, it’s fun. You constantly check how the world is moving, make decisions, and then the market tells you whether you're right or wrong each day. My efforts directly connect to the outcomes.
How do your investment styles differ? Can you explain each other's strengths?
Yeong-su Hyeon-jun always follows companies with the biggest dreams. Jae-yeob is incredibly detailed and thorough when analyzing companies, so he fills in the gaps I might miss.
Hyeon-jun That’s not easy at first, but Yeong-su is bold when it comes to investing. Tae-min is very passionate and absorbs the good qualities in this respect of the seniors really well.
Jae-yeob Ho-jun has strong convictions even with limited information, sticking firmly to his logic.
Are there any personality traits that make someone better at investing?
Yeong-su Among stock investors, there’s definitely a dominant presence of the "T" (Thinking) MBTI type.
Hyeon-jun But you still need logical empathy.
Tae-min That’s right. To invest well, you have to think about what people will like.
If each member were considered a company, who do you think has the highest value?
Hyeon-jun I think Tae-min has the highest value since he’s the next president of the club and is great at investing.
Tae-min For me, it’s Hyeon-jun and Yeong-su. Like private companies preparing to go public, they’ve just entered the industry, and I think they’ll pave the way for us.
How does the value investment club have fun?
Tae-min When we do research, everyone pulls all-nighters. We spend 3–4 days a week together, so it’s impossible not to become close.
Yeong-su I’ve been in other clubs, but people who invest in stocks seem to have a bit of a fiery side.
Hyeon-jun Every Friday night, we have after-meeting gatherings, and the atmosphere is so good that we always go to the 5th round of hangouts. During our last retreat at Eurwangni Beach, we had clams by the sea, played volleyball, and even played dakssaum (a physical competition where each player stands on one leg and tries to knock the opponent off balance).
How would you compare your self before and after joining KUVIC?
Tae-min KUVIC was a turning point for me. I gained internship opportunities and learned so much that I want to give back more.
Jae-yeob Now, I wake up early every morning to check the news, and I’ve become more aggressive in my investments.
Ho-jun After failing my CPA exams, KUVIC was like a lifeline for me.
Yeong-su The people I see and talk to all day are KUVIC members. We share our daily lives and laugh and cry together.
Hyeon-jun I used to work in the film industry and entered university later than others, but KUVIC has completely changed the way I see the world.
